Peripheral and Carotid

Peripheral and Carotid

Welcome to Doctor Manan Anand Heart Care Peripheral and Carotid Section!

Carotid artery disease refers to the narrowing or blockage of the artery which takes place because of plaque accumulation. The cause of this disease resembles Atherosclerosis and is basically the same as that which causes coronary artery disease and peripheral artery disease (PAD).

The plaque in question is a deposit of cholesterol, calcium, and other cells in the artery wall.  With time, the narrowing of the artery can become so serious that a blockage may stop the blood flow to the brain. It can also lead to a stroke in some cases. This can also occur if a pellet of the plaque or a blood clot detaches from the wall of the carotid artery and assembles in the smaller arteries of the brain.

Symptoms for Peripheral and Carotid

Some of the most common symptoms for this condition are.

  • A mini-stroke which may cause and may include blurring, dimming, or loss of vision.
  • Tingling around the mouth, difficulty with speech.
  • The inability to normally move an arm or leg.
  • The inability to feel (numbness) in a part of the body and rarely.
  • A sudden severe headache.
